The United States Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) has announced the availability of draft Clean Water Act national recommended ambient water quality criteria for the protection of human health for three PFAS: PFOA, PFOS, and PFBS.
According to the EPA, PFAS are a large class of thousands of synthetic chemicals that have been in use in the United States and around the world since the 1940’s.
There is a sixty-days public comment period. Comments must be received by the EPA on or before February 24, 2025.
When the PFAS national recommendations are finalized, the recommendations will provide information to States and Tribes that they may consider when adopting water quality standards.
