Kentucky Supreme Court Approves Amendments To The Rules of Appellate Procedure

The Kentucky Supreme Court has entered Administrative Order 2026-01. The Order approved amendments to the Rules of Appellate Procedure. The amendments shall become effective April 1, 2026.

The amendments involve changes to:

  1. Appeal as of right;
  2. Service, form, and filing;
  3. Motions;
  4. Amendment of the parties;
  5. Prehearing procedure in the Court of Appeals;
  6. Notice to Attorney General when constitutional validity of a statute is at issue;
  7. Time for filing and serving briefs;
  8. Format and number of briefs;
  9. Organization and content of briefs;
  10. Original proceedings in appellate courts; and
  11. Bonds in civil appeals.
