The U.S. Court of Appeals For The Federal Circuit Vacated A $300 Million Dollars Judgment Against Apple

In a case arising out of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, the United States Court of Appeals For The Federal Circuit has vacated a three-hundred-million dollars judgment against Apple mainly because of violations of Apple’s Seventh Amendment Constitutional Right to a jury trial which requires unanimity in jury verdicts.

There were three other errors, as well:

  1. There was an erroneous patent eligibility analysis under 35 U.S.C. § 101.
  2. There was an erroneous means-plus-function determination under 35 U.S.C. § 112 ¶ 6.
  3. There was an abuse of discretion in admitting prejudicial settlement evidence under Federal Rule of Evidence 403.

The case is titled, “Optis Cellular Technology v. Apple Inc.
