The Supreme Court of Texas is inviting public comments on proposed amendments to Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 13 and Texas Rules of Appellate Procedure 9 and 52 and the proposed repeal of Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 57, as set forth in Misc. Docket No. 26-9054.
Per the State of Texas Supreme Court, the rules are proposed to be written in order to “modernize” the rules and to reinforce the obligation of attorneys and self-represented parties to verify documents filed with the Court.
The principal concern intended to be resolved by these proposed rule changes involves concerns about the improper use of artificial intelligence (“AI”) in filings.
Comments regarding the amendments should be submitted by September 1, 2026. The Court will issue an order finalizing the amendments after the comment period closes. The Court may change the amendments in response to public comments. The Court expects the amendments to take effect on October 1, 2026.
